Subsidiary post:  Exceptions to the Value of the Past

The past can give us counsel about the present; the future, on the other hand, does not yet have anything to say.

Hebrews 1:10 (quoting Psalm 102:2)  –  “And, ‘YOU, LORD, IN THE BEGINNING LAID THE FOUNDATION OF THE EARTH, AND THE HEAVENS ARE THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;”  –  Note that where this verse says “in the beginning,” the verse it is quoting says “of old,” indicating a common meaning.

Job 12:12  –  “Wisdom is with aged men, with long life is understanding.”

Psalm  102:25 (quoted in Hebrews 1:10)  –  “Of old You founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.”  –  See note on Hebrews 1:10 above.

Proverbs 23:10, 11  –  “Do not move the ancient boundary…”

Proverbs 23:22  –  “Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”
