Gather or Scatter

An asterisk at the beginning of the citation indicates a non-literal reference to gathering or scattering.

Matthew 12:30 (parallel to Luke 11:23 below)  –  “…and he who does not gather with Me scatters.”

Matthew 26:31 (quoting Zechariah 13:7 and parallel to Mark 14:27, though neither include the word “flock”)  –  “…’I WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP OF THE FLOCK SHALL BE SCATTERED…’”

Mark 14:27 (quoting Zechariah 13:7 and parallel to Matthew 26:31) – “…’I WILL STRIKE DOWN THE SHEPHERD, AND THE SHEEP SHALL BE SCATTERED.’”

Luke 11:23 (parallel to Matthew 12:30 above) –  “…and he who does not gather with Me, scatters.”

*John 10:16  –  “I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.”  –  It is not many gatherings, but rather one gathering that He ultimately sought.  The many gatherings were seen in the ever-spreading first-century church about which we read in the New Testament; the one gathering was achieved in the coming of the kingdom of God.

John 11:51, 52  –  “…but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.”

John 16:32 (alluding to 1 Kings 22:17; 2 Chronicles 18:16)  –  “…for you to be scattered, each to his own home…”

Acts 5:36  –  “…and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.”
Acts 5:37  –  “…and all those who followed him were scattered.”

2 Thessalonians 2:1  –  The gathering is to Him.

1 Peter 5:4  –  The apostles and elders were to gather the sheep until the chief Shepherd returned for them.

1 Kings 22:17 (parallel to 2 Chronicles 18:16 below)  –  “…’I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep which have no shepherd…'”

2 Chronicles 18:16 (parallel to 1 Kings 22:17 above)

Psalm 50:5  –  It is a gathering of godly ones.

Isaiah 56:8  –  And it’s clear from Luke 12:32 that it doesn’t matter how small the initial gathering is or was.

Zechariah 13:7 (quoted in Matthew 26:31 and Mark 14:27)  –  “…’Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered…’”
