Jesus is our leader.  He leads us; we follow Him.

There are those who led us to Christ, and there are those who lead us astray (i.e. they mislead us – whether knowingly or ignorantly).

Key words for a study like this are “lead,” “guide,” and their respective cognates – correspondingly, “follow” as well.  Where the idea is present without those explicit words, I have placed an asterisk at the beginning of the citation.

Relating to His role as leader, Christ is our teacher.  See, for example, Psalm 25:5, 9.  Therefore, in studying Christ as leader, be sure to consider as part of that study, His role as teacher.

An asterisk at the beginning of the citation indicates an implicit reference to “leader.”

Matthew 23:10  –  “Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ.

John 10:3  –  “…he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”

2 Samuel 7:8 (parallel to 1 Chronicles 17:7)  –  “…”I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.'”  –  Note that “ruler” is used here in place of “leader” in 1 Chronicles 17:7, indicating that the two terms are synonymous.  Indeed, they both speak of a king.

1 Chronicles 17:7 (parallel to 2 Samuel 7:8)  –  “…’I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel.”  –  David is a type of Christ.
