Timing and Righteousness

Or, “How God Tells Time.”

This is a subsidiary post of Times, Seasons, Epochs, and Ages.
It is also a subsidiary post of Righteousness.

The Scriptures teach that God counts time differently than we do.

Keystone Passage

Matthew 3:15  –  Jesus here demonstrates and teaches that “telling time” from God’s point of view is a matter of discerning what is right action in that moment.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11  –  This passage makes eloquently clear that there is a time for everything.  Therefore, time and circumstances have everything to do with righteousness – as the following verses make clear in one way or another.

Matthew 3:15  –  “…’Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness’…”

Matthew 16:3  –  “…Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times?”

Matthew 24:25  –  “…to give them their food at the proper time?”

Luke 12:42  –  “…to give them their rations at the proper time?”

Acts 3:19  –  “…times of refreshing…”

Acts 17:30  –  “…the times of ignorance…”

James 5:1  –  “…which are coming…”
James 5:2

James 5:4
James 5:5  –  “…in a day of…”

1 Peter 5:6  –  “that He may exalt you at the proper time,”

2 Peter 3:8, 9  –  “…with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.  The Lord is not slow about…”  –  God does not tell time as we do.  He is not looking at a watch or clock; neither is He consulting a calendar.  He is acting or waiting as is appropriate in the situation at hand.

Revelation 2:21  –  “I gave her time to repent…”

2 Kings 5:26  –  “…Is it a time to…?”

2 Kings 7:9  –  “…This is a day of…”
