Vocabulary of Prayer

This is a subsidiary post to Vocabularies.
It is also a subsidiary post to Prayer.

This post was previously titled “Words Relevant to Prayer.”

All of the words below don’t apply exclusively to prayer, but they do all have at least some bearing on the subject.

To the right of each word, I have given a reason for the word’s relevance to the subject of prayer – even when a reason is obvious.

alert  –  because we must be alert, not sleeping, to receive in prayer (Colossians 4:2)

amen  –  because this word means more than “I’m finished praying.”

answer  –  because the purpose of praying is to receive an answer

ask  –  because the one who asks, receives (Matthew 7:7,8)
