The one we worship is the one we serve; the one we serve is the one we worship. Just as no one can serve two masters, neither can anyone worship two masters (Matthew 6:24).
Luke 4:8 – “…YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY…”
Romans 1:25 – “For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…”
Romans 12:1 – “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”
Exodus 20:4, 5 – “…You shall not worship them or serve them…”
Deuteronomy 11:16 – “‘Beware that your hearts are not deceived, and that you do not turn away and serve other gods and worship them’.”
2 Kings 10:23 – “…”Search and see that there is here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but only the worshipers of Baal.” – We can see in this verse that “serve” and “worship” are used interchangeably – another sign of the close relationship between the two words in the biblical view.
Psalm 97:7 – “Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, who boast themselves of idols; worship Him, all you gods.”
