“The People” as Referring to the Jews

This is a subsidiary post of Uncategorized References to Two Kinds of People…the Jews Being One.
It is also a subsidiary post of The People of God.

The expression “the people” is sometimes used in the Scripture as shorthand for “the people of God” or “the Jewish people” (which would, of course, mean the same thing).

Acts 3:23  –  The context (Deuteronomy 18:15) indicates that “the people” applied to the nation of Israel and not to all the people of the world.

Acts 4:8  –  The “rulers and elders” were of “the people” of Israel, not of all people in the world.

Acts 7:17  –  Here “the people” obviously didn’t include the Egyptians.

Acts 10:2  –  Note that the NASB translators have inserted “Jewish” between “the” and “people” in this verse to make clear to readers what is being communicated.

Acts 13:17  –  Same point as Acts 7:17 above.

Acts 26:17  –  See note above on Acts 10:2, as the same point applies here.

Acts 26:23  –  See note above on Acts 10:2, as the same point applies here.
