Hating Things We Ought to Hate

This is a subsidiary post of Hatred.

We know that God is love and that He commands us to love.  True love requires us to hate certain things because God Himself hates certain things.  For example, if you love righteousness you, ipso facto, must hate sin.  This is because sin is the opposite of righteousness.  Let us therefore hate the things we ought to hate in order that we might might love the things we ought to love.

What should we hate?

John 12:25  –  “hates his life in this world” (Compare with Revelation 12:11)

Hebrews 1:9 (quoting Psalm 45:7 below)  –  “HATED LAWLESSNESS

Jude 1:23  –  “hating even the garment polluted by the flesh

Psalm 45:7 (quoted in Hebrews 1:9 above)  –  “hated wickedness

Psalm 97:10  –  “hate evil

Proverbs 8:13  –  “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverted mouth, I hate.”

Amos 5:15  –  “hate evil

Malachi 1:2, 3  –  “Yet I have loved Jacob; but I have hated Esau”  –  That is, God hates the ways of Esau:  his immorality and godlessness (Hebrews 12:15-17).
