If we weren’t convinced that God is good and we are not, the life of Jesus of Nazareth should have removed all doubt.

Men can be categorized as good or evil when they are compared to one another.  However, when compared to God, all men are evil – as the verses in the list below attest.

The purpose of salvation is to take us from our sinful state and re-make us in His image.

Matthew 1:21  –  He can’t very well “save His people from their sins” if they don’t have any sins.  Also see Luke 5:32 and 2 Corinthians 5:21 both below.

Matthew 3:13-15  –  Even Jesus, who was without sin, chose identification with sinners as His approach to God.  Contrast this with the Pharisee in Luke 18:9-14 below.

Matthew 7:11 (same as Luke 11:13 below)

Mark 10:18

Luke 5:32

Luke 11:13 (same as Matthew 7:11 above)

Luke 18:9-14

John 8:7, 11

Romans 3:4

Romans 3:9-18

Romans 3:23  –  “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

2 Corinthians 5:21  –  If we are to “become the righteousness of God in Him” we must be something less than that until the process is complete.

2 Corinthians 10:12  –  We should not be comparing ourselves to each other.  We should compare ourselves to Jesus and see how far short we fall.

Psalm 14:1-3

Psalm 53:1-3

Isaiah 6:5
