The Bible often associates sin with words like enslave, slave, slavery, bondage, captivity, and so on.  In that vein, it associates forgiveness of sins with words like escape, freedom, liberty, and so on.  It is the truth, and specifically our knowledge of the truth, that leads us from slavery to freedom.  In this freedom we do righteousness.

Christ came to give us freedom from sin, not the freedom to sin (Jude 1:4).
