Two Kinds of Christians in This Age, Spiritually Speaking

This table seeks to distinguish those Christians who are genuinely devoted to Christ from those who are simply paying Him lip service.  For the most part, we don’t know whether a given Christian or group of Christians is truly devoted to Christ or not.  This is because we cannot see human hearts, but the Lord knows those who are His (2 Timothy 2:19).  Yet the Lord wants us to be aware of the distinction because He wants to protect us from confusion and equip us to live wisely in a world often permeated with deception.

A previous table, Two Kinds of People in This Age, Spiritually Speaking, divided humanity into Christians and Non-Christians.  This table is a subdivision of the Christian category in that table.

Two Kinds of Christians in This Age, Spiritually Speaking

Matthew 7:15Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolvessee 2 Peter 2:1
John 1:47an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit
1 Corinthians 5:11so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler
2 Corinthians 6:8deceiverstrue
2 Corinthians 11:26false brethren
Galatians 2:4false brethren
1 Timothy 5:8But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever
Titus 1:16They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him
2 Peter 2:1false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselvessee Matthew 7:15
1 John 2:4The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him
Revelation 2:9those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan
Revelation 3:9those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie
Not everyone who calls himself a Christian is genuinely devoted to Christ. These are scriptures which help us recognize that just because someone claims to love Jesus does not mean that he actually does. This discernment is not so that we might become judges but so that we might relate wisely to others.
