In the Scriptures, “walking” is often a metaphor for “living.”  Therefore, when we see a verse like Genesis 17:1, we know that it means to “live before.”  Or when we read a verse like 2 Corinthians 5:7, we know that it’s saying we should be “living according to…”

In this regard, “walking in the spirit” is the same thing as “walking in the light” is the same thing as “walking in the truth” means the same thing as “walking in Christ.”  All these phrases, or some slight variation, occur below.  And they all lead to the same blessed outcome.

Romans 8:4  –  “…who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

2 Corinthians 4:2  –  “…not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God…”

2 Corinthians 5:7  –  “for we walk by faith, not by sight–”

Galatians 5:16  –  “…walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

Galatians 5:25  –  “If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”

Ephesians 2:1, 2  –  “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world…”

Ephesians 2:10  –  “…created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

Ephesians 4:17, 18, 19  –  “…that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding…”

Ephesians 5:1, 2  –  “…walk in love, just as Christ also loved you…”

Ephesians 5:15  –  “…be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,”

Colossians 2:6, 7  –  “…as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed…”

1 John 1:6  –  “If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness…”
1 John 1:7  –  “but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light…”

1 John 2:6  –  “…ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”

2 John 1:4  –  “I was very glad to find some of your children walking in truth, just as we have received commandment to do from the Father.”

3 John 1:3  –  “For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth.”
3 John 1:4  –  “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.”
