General References to the Promises of God

Romans 1:2

Romans 4:20
Romans 4:21  –  God does not make promises that He is unable to keep.

Romans 9:3, 4, 5  –  The promises of God are to the Jews.  See also Ephesians 2:12 below.

2 Corinthians 1:20  –  All the promises of God in the Scriptures were to Jesus, and through Him, they are now to us as well.  Thus we are “joint heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:16-17).

2 Corinthians 6:16, 17, 18; 7:1

Ephesians 2:12  –  The promises are to the Jews.  See also Romans 9:3-5 above.

Hebrews 6:11, 12

Hebrews 8:6  –  The new covenant has better promises than the old covenant.  For example, Proverbs 22:4 promises “riches, honor, and life.”  In the old covenant, these three things were of a physical, earthly, temporal nature.  In the new covenant, however, they are of a spiritual, heavenly, and eternal nature.
