As God separated the light from the darkness, so we should separate knowledge from ignorance.  (The man healed of blindness in John 9 took a simple, straightforward, and commendable approach to this task in John 9:25.)

Ignorance is not the only thing that works against knowledge.  I have put all the verses that apply to simple ignorance in the subsidiary post Ignorance so that I can highlight in this list other factors that work against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5 below).

KEYSTONE VERSE

2 Corinthians 10:5 – “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God…”

VERSES

John 16:2  –  “everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God”
John 16:3  –  “they have not known the Father or Me”  –  Such people are similar those Jeremiah spoke of in Jeremiah 2:8 below.

Acts 26:9  –  “I thought to myself that I had to do many things hostile to the name of Jesus of Nazareth”

Romans 1:21  –  “they became futile in their speculations

Romans 14:1  –  “opinions

Romans 14:14  –  “thinks” as contrasted with “I know and am convinced”

1 Corinthians 8:2  –  “supposes that he knows anything” as contrasted with “known as he ought to know”(see Knowledge with Certainty)

2 Corinthians 10:5  –  “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God…”

1 Timothy 1:4  –  “nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation

1 Timothy 6:20  – “what is falsely called knowledge

Titus 1:16  –  “They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him”

2 Peter 2:12-16 – “But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge…” – Note that, according to Peter, these false teachers are “like…animals” in that they are 1) “unreasoning” (i.e. these men don’t think), 2) are “creatures of instinct” (i.e. they are motivated by , and 3) they are to be captured and killed” (i.e. they are the prey of Satan and his forces).

*****

Jeremiah 2:8  –  “those who handle the law did not know Me”  –  Presumably, they thought they knew Him.  Consider them similar to those Jesus spoke of in John 16:2-3 above.
