Faith and Works

There is a twofold focus that we must employ in transitioning from our old way of life to our new way of life.  First, we acknowledge the presence of the Lord.  Second, we do that which is pleasing in His sight.  Both of these are required of us.  If we do not do good in the presence of the Lord, the presence of the Lord will be taken away from us (Matthew 21:43).  Conversely, doing good without acknowledgment of the Lord leaves us practicing our righteousness before men instead of God (Matthew 6:1) – a vain exercise (Romans 3:20; Galatians 2:16).  Therefore, let us do both:  let us 1) trust God, and 2) do good in His sight.

This table depicts the twofold nature of our walk with God. We believe...and we do good. Works can never make us alive to God (Romans 3:20), but faith without works is dead (James 2:26).
