Soul

This is a subsidiary post of The Inner Man.

See also Salvation.
See also Heart (since “heart” and “soul” are often used interchangeably).
See also Rest (since God promises us rest for our souls in Jeremiah 6:16 and Matthew 11:28, 29, 30)

Like the hymn, you want to always be able to say It Is Well with My Soul.  In fact, it is proper for you to seek the blessedness of your soul by doing good (see Romans 2:9, 10 below).

Matthew 11:28, 29, 30 (quoting Jeremiah 6:16 from below)  –  Jesus promises rest for the restless soul.

Matthew 16:26  –  Don’t lose your soul!

Mark 8:36

Luke 9:25

Romans 2:9, 10  –  The state of our souls is determined by the way we are living.  Thus our souls give us an indication as to whether or not we are pleasing God.

Hebrews 10:39  –  Faith has a preserving – that is, a saving – effect on the soul.  (See 1 Peter 1:9 below.)

Hebrews 13:17

James 1:21  –  “…which is able to save your souls.”

James 5:20  –  “…will save his soul from death.”

James 5:19-20  –  “My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.”  –  See Ezekiel 18:4 below.

1 Peter 1:9  –  “obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.”  –  See Hebrews 10:39 above.

1 Peter 2:11  –  “…abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.”  –  Satan is the enemy of your soul, and so he wages war against it.

2 Peter 2:7, 8, 9

3 John 1:2

#####

The focal point of ministerial efforts should be toward the human soul.

The soul is where life is experienced.

The honest face is window to the soul.

Would that every human being could learn the care and feeding of the human soul that can be found in Christ.

The care and feeding of the human soul is the inheritance of the saints in Christ.

Would that every human being could sing at all times and truthfully It Is Well with My Soul.

It’s a Salvation of the Soul…Not Circumstances
