There is glory that comes from God and then there is glory that comes from men (John 5:44).  Jesus was willing to receive the former, but not the latter (John 5:41).

As for the glory that comes from God, it is often contrasted with the suffering brought on by men (as in Luke 24:26 and 1 Peter 1:11).  When the terms are coupled it usually refers to the glory that God brings to a person, particularly in resurrection, as a reward for bearing up virtuously under the suffering brought on my one’s fellow human beings (2 Corinthians 4:17).
