John 4:19-22 (In this discussion with a Samaritan woman at the well in the city of Sychar, Jesus makes clear that even though Israel’s historic form of worship would pass away with the destruction of Jerusalem’s temple (which happened in 70 A.D.), the Jews were the means through which truth, and specifically the truth about God, had come into the world. In the same way, we can say that even though the church ceased to be God’s instrument when the kingdom of God arrived at the close of the New Testament age, still the truth of the Old and New Testaments have come to the world through the church. Therefore, acknowledge Israel and the church for their historic roles, but cling only to the truth which came through them. It is the truth of Jesus Christ that makes you free.)
Matthew 23:3 (Churches are like the Pharisees – they say the right things but don’t do them.)
Luke 6:46-49 (Don’t make the mistake of the churches. Do what Jesus says, which is to love God supremely…and everyone else as you love yourself.)
