There’s a principle to follow in 1 Corinthians 7:20-24. If God was instructing slaves in that day through Paul to not seek freedom but rather seek obedience to God while in slavery, how much more would He say to us today that we should not seek change in our our circumstances but rather to serve Him in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. (As for slavery, note that God says that if freedom does come the slave’s way, he can accept it gratefully.)
Paul himself knew about serving God in existing circumstances and wrote about it Philippians 4:11-13 and in 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.
As for God’s interest in cleansing the inner man, see Mark 7:14-23.
